7/17/09
Structure Fire
At 5:59 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 307 Riverside Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival of Engine 42 and Rescue-Tanker 44 firefighters found a 2-story single family home with flames showing on the first and second stories in both the front and rear. Due to heavy fire conditions firefighters were restricted to an exterior attack. Also assisting at the scene was Marquette Twp Fire-Rescue, Sands Twp Fire Dept., Skandia-West Branch Fire Dept., Sands Twp. EMS, Marquette General EMS, Chocolay Police, Rescue 131, and the Salvation Army. 40 firefighters in all battled the blaze which was declared under control at 6:34 PM with the last unit clearing the scene at 10:45 PM.







6/23/09
Misc Fire
At 12:04 AM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 334 County Road 480 for a reported shed fire. Firefighters from Engine 42 arrived to find a rubbish pile on fire with flames spreading to nearby trees and brush. Engine 42, Rescue Tanker 44, and Tanker 41 were back in service at 12:56 AM.







6/20/09
Misc. Fire
At 9:11 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 105 Country Lane for a report of heavy smoke in the area. Firefighters discovered a large rubbish fire that was getting out of control. Firefighters extinguished the fire and cleared the scene. Engine 42, Tanker 41, and Unit 45 were all back in service at 10:06 AM.







6/18/09
Grass Fire
At 4:08 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 5087 U.S.41 South for a report of mulch smoldering near a business. Firefighters used fire extinguishers to eliminate the embers. Engine 42 and Unit 45 cleared were back in service at 4:23 PM.







6/15/09
Traffic Accident
At 8:56 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to U.S.41 in front of the fire station for a two vehicle motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival of Rescue-Tanker 44 firefighters assisted MediRide EMS with patient removal. Rescue-Tanker 44 cleared the scene at 8:56 PM.


Grass Fire At 11:02 AM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to U.S.41 South and Mangum Road for a reported small grass fire on the side of the road. Upon investigation, firefighters found no fire and returned to the station. Tanker 41 and Unit 45 were back in service at 11:22 AM.







6/8/09
Carbon Monoxide Alarm
At 8:58 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 646 Cherry Creek Road for a CO alarm activation in the residence. Firefighters used a multi-gas meter to check for the presence of carbon monoxide and found elevated levels throughout the residence. Engine 42 cleared the scene at 9:22 PM.

EMS Assist
At 8:28 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was called to the 800 block of Willow Road for an EMS manpower assist with MediRide EMS. Unit 46 and Unit 45 cleared the scene at 10:48 PM.







5/8/09
EMS Assist
At 8:28 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was called to the 200 block of Kawbawgam Road for an EMS-manpower assist. Chocolay firefighters assisted Mediride EMS in removing a patient from the residence. Rescue/Tanker 44 was back in service at 8:54 PM.







5/2/09
Structure Fire
At 1:05 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to E1661 M-28 in Onota Twp. for a mutual aid structure fire. Upon arrival of Engine 42 and Tanker 41 firefighters discovered a detatched garage that was fully involved. Chocolay crews assisted Onota Twp. Fire in knocking down the fire as well as overhaul. Tanker 41 and Tanker 43 also provided multiple loads of water. Also assisting at the scene was Autrain FD and Alger County EMS. Engine 42, Tanker 43, and Tanker 41 were back in service at 4:40 PM.







5/1/09
Structure Fire
At 6:26 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to N9309 Sand River Road in Onota Twp. for a mutual aid structure fire. Upon arrival of Engine 42 and Tanker 41 firefighters discovered smoke coming from the eves and attic area of the residence. Upon further investigation it was found to actually be a chimney fire. Onota FD extinguished the fire while Chocolay crews ventilated the attic. Engine 42 and Tanker 41 were back in service at 7:14 PM.







4/27/09
Vehicle Fire
At 8:02 AM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to U.S.41 South near Deerview Trail for a report of a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival of Engine 42 and Rescue/Tanker 44 firefighters discovered fire in the engine compartment and fluids leaking on the ground. Firefighters extinguished the flames and tended to the leaking fluids. Engine 42 and Rescue/Tanker 44 were back in service at 8:38 AM.


Stove Fire At 8:26 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 1010 M-28 East for a stove fire. Rescue-Tanker 44, Unit 45, and Marquette Twp. Tanker 78 were reassigned from the Riverside Road incident and responded to the call. Once on scene it was found that the occupant of the residence had extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters used a smoke ejector to remove smoke from the residence. All units cleared at 8:45 PM and returned to the Riverside Road incident.







5/1/09
EMS Assist
At 8:28 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was called to the 200 block of Kawbawgam Road for an EMS-manpower assist. Chocolay firefighters assisted Mediride EMS in removing a patient from the residence. Rescue/Tanker 44 was back in service at 8:54 PM.







4/26/09
Good Intent
At 12:18 AM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to Cherry Creek Elementary School at 1111 Ortman Road for a report of smoke coming from the roof area of the building. Upon further investigation by Engine 42 firefighters, it was found to be steam coming from a furnace vent. Firefighters also inspected the interior of the building and found nothing out of the ordinary. Engine 42 cleared the scene at 1:05 AM.







4/23/09
Fire Alarm
At 12:26 AM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to 104 Ripley Court for an automatic fire alarm activation. Firefighters from Engine 42 arrived to find an upstairs toilet that had over flowed causing water to enter a basement smoke detector. Firefighters removed the damaged smoke detector and reset the alarm. Engine 42 was back in service at 12:45 AM.







4/17/09
Traffic Accident
At 12:09 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the intersection of Cherry Creek Road and County Road 480 for a two-car motor vehicle accident with one patient possibly in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival of Engine 42 and Rescue 44, firefighters determined that there was three patients involved. Firefighters assisted MGH paramedics in patient removal as well as traffic control. Also assisting at the scene was the Marquette County Sheriff's Dept., Chocolay PD, and Marquette General Hospital EMS. Engine 42 and Rescue 44 were back in service at 1:00 PM.


Grass Fire
At 4:56 PM Chocolay firefighters were called to 416 Sunny Brook Road for a grass fire that was spreading to a shed and fence near the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found a large portion of fence burning as well as a small shed. Firefighters used 2000 gallons of water to put out the flames and take care of any remaining hot spots. Tanker 41, Engine 42, and Unit 45 were back in service at 5:36 PM.


Grass Fire
At 8:28 PM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched to 163 Johnson Road in Skandia Twp. for a mutual aid grass fire that had spread to a barn. The first arriving Skandia unit canceled Chocolay Fire after doing a quick size-up. Tanker 41 and Unit 45 returned to quarters at 8:45 PM.







4/3/09
Structure Fire
At 4:55 PM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched to 30 County Road 550 in Marquette Township for a mutual aid structure fire at a warehouse. Tanker 41 ran a tanker shuttle while on scene Chocolay firefighters stood by for a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) and assisted with interior operations. Tanker 41, Tanker 43, and Unit 45 were back in service at 7:33 PM.








4/3/09
Grass Fire
At 5:58 PM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched the area of Kawbawgam Road for a grass fire that was spreading. Central Dispatch advised that the fire had already been put out per Chocolay PD on scene. Engine 42 and Tanker 41 canceled, returned to the station, and were back in service at 6:03 PM.







4/2/09
Fire
At 5:04 PM the CTFD was dispatched to Silver Creek Road for a stove that was on fire. Upon arrival of Engine 42, firefighters found that the fire had been extinguished. Engine 42 was back in service at 5:16 PM.







3/29/09
Traffic Accident
At 10:27 PM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched to a minor motor vehicle accident just east of U.S.41 South on Mangum Road. Upon arrival, firefighters from Rescue 44 found the driver still inside of the vehicle. Firefighters assisted MGH EMS with patient removal. Also assisting at the scene was Chocolay PD. Rescue 44 returned to service at 11:11 PM.







3/11/09
Traffic Accident
Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles located on M-28 East at the Ojibway Casino entrance. Rescue 44 and Engine 42 along with Unit 45 arrived on scene and found two vehicles with multiple patients. Two people were removed from one of the vehicles which had suffered significant damage to the driver side door area. Both patients were taken to Marquette General Hospital by MediRide EMS. Also assisting at the scene was Chocolay PD.





3/10/09
Vehicle Fire
At 6:24 PM firefighters were dispatched to the area of M-28 and Springwood Drive for a vehicle fire. Firefighters from Engine 42 arrived on scene to find a car with heavy smoke but no fire coming from the underbody of the vehicle. After further investigation it was found that the catalytic converter had overheated. Engine 42 was back in service a short time later.



22/22/09
Vehicle Fire
At 1:55 AM CTFD firefighters were dispatched to Apple Trail off of Ortman Road for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival of Chocolay Fire units, it was found to be a Marquette County Sheriff's Department patrol car, which was now fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters used two 1 1/2 inch lines to knock down the fire and salvaged what equipment they could. Engine 42, Tanker 41, and Unit 45 were all back in service at 3:20 AM.





2/19/09
Traffic Accident
At 1:09 PM Chocolay Fire-Rescue was alerted to a 2-vehicle motor vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of U.S.41 and Silver Creek Road. Rescue 44 and Engine 42 arrived on scene a short time later and found one driver pinned in the vehicle. Firefighters removed the driver side door and back boarded the patient. Also assisting on the scene was Chocolay PD and MediRide EMS. Rescue 44 and Engine 42 were back in service at 2:10 PM.






2/6/09
Carbon Monoxide Alarm
At 10:54 AM firefighters were called to 145 Aspen Drive for a carbon monoxide alarm that was going off. Upon arrival of Engine 42, firefighters used a multi gas meter to test the air inside the residence and discovered elevated levels of carbon monoxide gas. Engine 42 cleared the scene at 11:42 AM.






1/25/09
EMS Assist
At 9:13 AM Rescue 44 responded to the 900 block of Cherry Creek Road for a cardiac arrest. Firefighters assisted Marquette General EMS and cleared the scene at 10:21 AM.






1/24/09
Service Call
At 11:38 AM Chocolay firefighters were called to 105 Keweenaw Trail to remove noxious fumes and smoke from the residence. Firefighters from Engine 42 used smoke ejectors to clear the house of the odors and smoke which were caused by a hot pack that overheated and burned in the microwave. Firefighters cleared the scene at 12:22 PM.

Chimney Fire
At 2:11 PM firefighters were dispatched to 326 West Terrace Street for a chimney fire. Once firefighters arrived the fire was contained and all remaining hot spots were extinguished. Firefighters checked for extension and ventilated the residence. Engine 42, Tanker 41, and Unit 45 were back in service at 3:38 PM.

Uncontrolled Burn
At 6:09 PM Chocolay FD was dispatched to an area behind the Cherry Creek Village for a controlled burn that was large and getting out of hand. Engine 42 and Tanker 41 responded to the call. Upon arrival firefighters discovered that the fire was spreading to nearby trees. Firefighters used approximately 500 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. Engine 42 and Tanker 41 were back in service at 6:56 PM.

Traffic Accident
At 8:19 PM the CTFD was once again called to service. This time for a multi car motor vehicle accident at 2958 U.S. 41 South in front the Chocolay Ace Hardware. Upon arrival of Rescue 44, Engine 42, and Unit 45 it was found that a Jeep and a compact car had collided head-on. The occupants of the Jeep were uninjured. However, two occupants in the car were entrapped and had been injured. Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" to remove the front door on each side of the car as well as the roof. Firefighters assisted Marquette General and MediRide medics with packaging of the patients, both of which were transported to Marquette General Hospital. The other vehicle suffered only minor damage. Also assisting at the scene was the Michigan State Police and the Chocolay Police Department. All Chocolay units cleared the scene at 10:02 PM.






1/20/09
Electrical Fire
At 2:53 AM the CTFD was called to 632 Brookfield Road for a fire in the wall. Upon arrival of Engine 42 and Tanker 41, firefighters entered the home and discovered a burned out portion of drywall around an electrical outlet in the living room area. Firefighters checked for extension, and after further investigation determined that the fire was cause by a shorted wire near the outlet. Engine 42 and Tanker 41 returned to the station at 3:39 AM.






1/16/09
Carbon Monoxide Alarm
At 2:10 PM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched to 371 West Wright Place for a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Once on scene, firefighters entered the home with the multi-gas meter and discovered elevated levels of carbon monoxide present through out the residence. Two occupants sought treatment for symptoms at Marquette General Hospital. Unit 45 was back in service at 2:53 PM.






1/7/09
Traffic Accident
At 8:09 PM the CTFD was called to U.S.41 and West Main Street for a single vehicle rollover with no injuries. Upon arrival of Rescue 44 and Engine 42 firefighters found one person out of the vehicle which was laying on its side blocking both northbound lanes of U.S.41. Chocolay PD took care of traffic control while firefighters assisted with clean-up of some debris and tended to fluids leaking from the vehicle. Command requested Unit 45 to bring additional floor-dry to the scene. All units were back in service at 8:41 PM.





1/2/09
Traffic Accident
At 10:57 AM Chocolay firefighters were alerted to a one car motor vehicle accident with injuries on U.S.41 just north of County Road 480 in Beaver Grove. Upon arrival of Rescue 44 and Engine 42 it was discovered that two vehicles were involved and that CPR was in progress on a male patient. PD also shutdown U.S.41 for the duration of the accident. Chocolay personnel assisted MediRide EMS medics with CPR and packaging of the patient. Medics were able to get a pulse back; however, while en route to MGH it was lost and efforts to revive the patient were unsuccessful. The other driver was uninjured. Chocolay firefighters remained on scene to assist with clean-up as well as assisting the Sheriff's Department with gathering evidence for accident investigation. Also at the scene was the Michigan State Police, Chocolay Police, and the Marquette County Sheriff's Department. Rescue 44 and Engine 42 returned to quarters at 1:28 PM.





12/26/08
Carbon Monoxide Alarm
At 3:13 AM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched to 354 Lakewood Lane for a report of a CO alarm that was going off. Upon arrival of Engine 42, firefighters entered the residence with a multi-gas meter and found no elevated levels of carbon monoxide. Engine 42 was back in service at 3:52 AM.





12/24/08
Traffic Accident
At 12:51 PM the CTFD was dispatched to U.S.41 in the area of Terrace Street for a multiple vehicle traffic accident. Crews from Rescue 44 and Engine 42 assisted MGH EMS with patient care and also Chocolay PD and the Sheriff's Dept with traffic control. Rescue 44 and Engine 42 reported back in service at 1:31 PM.





12/16/08
EMS Assist
At 3:05 AM Chocolay firefighters were requested by MediRide EMS in the 200 block of Kawbawgam Road for a lift assist. Rescue 44 cleared the scene at 3:42 AM.





12/15/08
EMS Assist
At 9:00 AM Chocolay personnel were dispatched to the 200 block of Cherry Creek Road to assist EMS with manpower. Rescue 44 was back in service at 9:13 AM.





12/14/08
EMS Assist
At 11:53 PM the CTFD was dispatched to the 1000 block of Superior Street for an EMS manpower assist. Rescue 44 responded and at 1:39 AM cleared the scene.





12/3/08
EMS Assist
At 8:03 AM Chocolay Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Cherry Creek Road for an EMS manpower assist. Rescue 44 called back in service at 8:32 AM.





12/2/08
Structure Fire
At 3:15 PM firefighters were called to 418 Lakewood Lane for a possible structure fire with flames showing from the rear of the residence. Engine 42 and Tanker 41 responded with full crews. Just prior to the arrival on scene of Engine 42, Central Dispatch informed command that the fire appeared to be out. Once on scene, it was found that the fire was on the rear wall of an attached garage and had been extinguished by the homeowner. Upon further investigation it was determined to be caused by an overheated electrical wire in the wall. Firefighters ventilated the residence, checked for any remaining hot spots, and cleared the scene at 3:57 PM.





12/1/08
EMS Assist
At 10:09 PM the CTFD was dispatched to the 4100 area of US41 South. Rescue 44 cleared the scene at 10:22 PM.





11/23/08
EMS Assist
At 10:10 AM the CTFD was called to the 100 block of Riverland Drive for an EMS assist. Rescue 44 cleared the scene at 10:27 AM.





11/16/08
Traffic Accident
The CTFD was dispatched at 6:54 PM to a single-vehicle rollover accident approximately 2 miles east of US 41 on Mangum Road. Rescue 44 responded and was informed by Chocolay PD that there was no injuries or entrapment. Once on scene the CTFD assisted with traffic control on the extremely slippery road. Once the wrecker righted the vehicle and cleared the roadway Rescue 44 cleared the scene and was back in service at 7:50 PM.





11/9/08
Traffic Accident
At 11:59 AM firefighters were dispatched to a minor two-vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of US 41 and Silver Creek Road. Rescue 44 rolled to the scene which was just a couple hundred feet north of the station. CTFD personnel assisted MediRide EMS and Chocolay Police with traffic control and also medical assistance. The scene was cleaned up and Rescue 44 was back in service at 12:23 PM.





11/6/08
Brush Fire
At 3:14 PM firefighters were dispatched to 1097 Cherry Creek Road for a brush fire. Mutual aid was requested from Michigan DNR, Marquette Twp FD, Negaunee Twp FD, and Sands Twp FD for brush units and tankers. The fire was roughly 2 acres in size when the first units reported on scene. There were also multiple structures to protect on the edge of the fast burning fire. Fire breaks were established and the fire was contained and eventually extinguished. The cause of the fire was determined to be a tree arcing on a power line. A total of 36 firefighters fought the blaze, with the last units clearing at 7:55 PM.





11/2/08
Brush Fire
At 11:30 AM the CTFD was dispatched to a possible shed fire at 1026 Cherry Creek Road. Upon arrival of Engine 42, the Incident Commander determined that it was actually a small grass fire next to the shed. Firefighters made a quick knock down of the fire and quickly extinguished the majority of the flames and prevented any damage to the nearby structure. Tanker 41 also responded non-emergency to provide additional water for eliminating hot spots. Units cleared the scene at 12:25 PM.





10/30/08
Brush Fire
At 6:41 PM CTFD personnel were alerted to a report of trees on fire at 1097 Cherry Creek Road with all Chocolay units responding. Due to the remote location of the fire and condition of the road, arriving units were forced to stage roughly a quarter mile away from the scene. Command immediately took unit 45 to size up the scene. After doing a quick survey of the scene command immediately called for manpower and brush trucks from mutual aid departments. Tanker 41 made its way to the north flank of the fire to provide water to head off the fire. Tanker 43 reported to the residence to protect multiple structures there from the fire that was a little over 75 feet to the north. Shortly after, Marquette Township FD arrived with a brush unit and personnel; Sand Township FD with multiple tankers, a brush unit, and additional personnel; the DNR was also requested and responded with attack units and a dozer. Crews were immediately ordered to construct fire breaks to contain the fast moving fire. The fire was eventally controlled and hot spots extinguished with the last units clearing the scene at 12:42 AM. In all 26 firefighters battled the blaze which burned approximately 7.5 acres.





10/29/08
EMS Assist
At 12:04 PM CTFD personnel were called to the 1900 area of M-28 East for a request for manpower. Rescue 44 cleared the scene at 1:12 PM.





10/25/08
EMS Assist
At 3:46 PM Chocolay firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of West Main Street for a cardiac arrest. Rescue 44 was back in service at 4:26 PM.





10/24/08
Trees On Power Line
At 12:34 PM the CTFD was dispatched 3 miles off of US41 South for a tree on a power line. Firefighters secured the scene until the Board of Light & Power arrived. Engine 42 was back in service at 1:12 PM.
